30.4% of San Francisco's homes are single-family houses, 20.1% are in buildings with two to four units, and 30.8% are in buildings with 20 or more units.

The Census sorts every home by the size of the building it is in, from a detached house up to a tower with 50 or more units. Each size has a ranking. Three more combine them into single-family homes, buildings with two to four units, and buildings with 20 or more.
