San Francisco Homeownership and Renter Statistics
61.8% of occupied homes in San Francisco are rented and 38.2% are owner-occupied, according to the American Community Survey for 2020-2024.
Most San Francisco households rent, but the split is different in every neighborhood. One ranking sorts the city by renter share and the other by homeownership rate. They are the same list read from opposite ends.
